Indications for castration/sterilization:

hormone-dependent diseases;
pathology of the genitourinary system.
Contraindications to the procedure:

surgical castration is not recommended for mature animals, in which anesthesia is administered, provoking a load on the heart;
chemical castration cannot be performed in a number of diseases of the liver, genitourinary system, tumor-like formations and other chronic pathologies.
Before the procedure, the ferret is examined by a doctor, an examination is carried out.

Age
The best age for sterilization is 6-10 months. It is during this period that puberty occurs in ferrets.

The following signs will help to more accurately determine the appropriate time for the procedure: males begin to mark the territory in the house, females appear in heat.

Early castration of an animal before puberty is not recommended. This procedure can disrupt the natural process of formation of the genitourinary organs and stop growth.

Advantages and disadvantages
Ferrets are one of the few animals for which castration does more good than harm.

Advantages of sterilization/castration of ferrets:

after the procedure, ferrets become more docile and affectionate, and are easy to train;
males stop marking in the corners;
the animal stops searching for a sexual partner;
the risks of developing a number of diseases are reduced;
life expectancy is increasing.
The disadvantages include possible postoperative complications and the risks of adverse reactions after the introduction of hormonal drugs used in the process of chemical sterilization.
